NEWS FROM ESCOT
Many thanks to Ann and Shelagh who wrote last month’s Escot news. Having created a precedent of using different authors I think it is a practice we would do well to continue as it gives a more varied view – and gives me a break!
May I thank those families who are able to tend their family graves and do so so effectively. It does help those who look after the churchyard and we are really most grateful to them.
September is a very busy month at Escot Church with a baptism, wedding, the annual Ride & Stride event and a confirmation, the last named being the first for a very long time to be held here. We are delighted to be able to host these and share our church with others.
On September 30th at All Saints Church Hall Sidmouth is an event which I cannot recommend too highly, OTlive, a walk through the Old Testament. Those who have been previously say it is both very enjoyable and informative. The cost is £12 if you pay before the day or £14 on the door. Please let me know if you’d like to come. 11 – 16 year olds accompanied by an adult go free but need to register.
Our Harvest Supper is approaching fast. It is to be on Friday 13th October in Escot Village Hall at 7.30pm and will consist of the traditional 3 course meal of soup, cold meats, potatoes and salads and, no doubt, delicious puds. Tickets are on sale now from me or any member of the PCC at the price of £10 for adults, £5 for children, to include your first drink.
As I think everyone knows by now, Rev Preb Cate is very rapidly approaching retirement, at least from parish work. Her last service with us will be Harvest Evensong on Sunday October 8th for which I hope we will have a large congregation. Harvest is always well supported but I would ask you to make a special effort to join us then so we can give her a very special send-off. We will as always have a glass of wine and refreshments after the service.
Save the date!
