NEWS FROM ESCOT

It seems a long time ago but we celebrated Christmas with a carol service in the Village Hall and a service on Christmas Day, both well supported. Sadly the priest who was booked to take the latter service became ill on Christmas Eve so we were unable to celebrate Holy Communion but the 30 of

us there sang carols and enjoyed the service. Over Christmas and New Year I led all four services but I’m glad to say we have now reverted to normal with a mix of leaders!

May I firstly remind you about our two fund-raising events in February both connected with snowdrops. On Friday 9th February Helen Brown is opening her garden at Little Ash Bungalow between 11am and 2pm. We are serving coffee and soup so if you’d like an opportunity other than our soup lunches to taste our soup and see her huge collection of snowdrops please come along. The second is our snowdrop weekend in church on 17th and 18th February when we hope our snowdrops will be in full bloom. We will be open both days from 10am to 4pm and will be serving refreshments all day – yet more soup but other things as well! The registers will also be out if you have family information you would like to check.

One piece of good financial news is that our parish share has decreased again this year. This is due to several people having left us a couple of years ago and the number used for the calculation being based on a three year rolling average. This year’s contribution is £2,541, a reduction of 18% from last year. From now on it will start to rise again but the reduction will help us put more money to the new boiler fund.

Our annual church meeting is the occasion when we produce a report of all we’ve done in the past year and last year’s accounts. We also appoint church wardens and members of the PCC. It is being held on Thursday 8th March at 7.30 pm in church and is your opportunity to find out what we’re doing and bring up any issues you may have. We would also appreciate any views you have on the future of Escot Church as continuing indefinitely with our current numbers is not an option. Please do come and join us, it will only be a short meeting.
