NEWS FROM ESCOT
Obviously the big news this month is the corona virus and the effect it is having and, I fear, the much greater effect it will have on all our activities over the next few months.
However we were able to hold our Annual Parochial Church Meeting early in March when we presented our Annual Report and Accounts for 2019. As you know the largest expense last year was the replacement of the boiler at about £11,000, but in spite of that we only made a loss of £6,000 which is very pleasing. Many good things happened during the year, not least the fact that we were able to give away almost £2,500, just over £2,000 from our increasingly successful soup lunches. The latter not only raise money but provide a very valuable social activity to which increasing numbers come. The Annual Report and Accounts is a public document so if you would like to have a copy please contact me.
As I write we have just heard that all services will be suspended for the foreseeable future. This sadly means that The Bishop of Exeter will not be joining us on Mothering Sunday nor can we have our family service at Escot House.
The archbishops have asked that as many churches as possible will be open for private prayer so we have decided to open Escot Church. I appreciate that we are taking a big risk and would just ask that anyone who is able to, pops in occasionally to see that all is well. If not please contact me. Each week I will leave copies of the Sunday Link in church if any of you would like to pick it up.
This will be a very unusual Easter for those of us who normally experience the season through church services from Good Friday to Easter Day but may I wish you all a very happy Easter.
